Definitely not! The fleas, most likely, had also ingested human blood, therefore along with the cat, some of your neighbors would have disappeared too. I ran a Spooky Spectrum Sweep on myself for three months non-stop.
The cat may have been mortally ill anyway. Another more unpleasant possibility is that someone may have poisoned it because it had fleas. Some less evolved people will do this without a second thought.
