A sweep runs through a range of frequencies, starting from one specific point and ending at another.
A sweep is used when you don't know which frequency to use. You use a frequency sweep to kill an unknown or known pathogen. Pathogens can mutate and transform into other types making it very difficult to treat them based on typical symptoms of pathogen.
