I use a backup power supply for most of my generators. This gives me an hour and a half to decide what I need to shut down and what to switch to pure sine wave inverter. My backup power filters dirty electric, brownouts, and surges. I do have electric now but still use solar and wind for 12v lights and water pumps. I do run the scalar of 12v.
