1. I don't know precisely, but they aren't massive. Most cheap refurbished laptops off eBay or similar auction sites will do it. Mine cost around £60. Just get any generic Windows laptop that you can keep offline and do the software updates via a memory stick.
2. I picked up a base model mini-laptop from Asus for $120 from Best Buy that works great. You just need 2 USB ports to run a scan with the XM generator.
3. I just bought a HP at Walmart for $199.
