1. It is designed to run warm. It borders on hot to the touch, but it is NORMAL due to the amount of energy used. I run it standing on the small side with the air holes vertical - usually sitting on a trivet or similar that allows the most air around it.
2. I elevate mine. Any electronics I don't let sit against something solid if possible. Even though there is not an opening on the bottom, I still set on a box (i.e. an empty “remote” box or something small like that) to allow circulation. This seems to help electronics last longer.
3. It can be hot. The alluminium case is designed to take away the heat from the main board and we specially used some technique to transfer the heat from the board to the case itself. But if you are still worried, we recommend using an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature.
