1. This problem occurs in WIN 10 after recent Microsoft updates. Win 10 loses USB ports, in my case the printer. I had to uninstall the printer and turn on the hardware detection again, detected the printer and reinstalled. Sure, Spooky2 may be the same. I use Spooky2 on Win 7 and WinXP and I have no problems although they are connected to the internet.
2. I suggest you try this:
Power off the laptop and any XM/GX generators.
Power up laptop and log in. Wait a few minutes for windows to update screen icons etc.
Power up one generator and see if it detects the USB device. If not try another USB port.
Start the Spooky2 software program.
Spooky2 Menu->Utils->Identify USB Devices
Xm Generator = "CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller"
Generator X = "CP2105 Dual USB to UART Bridge Controller" , Vendor ID = "Silicon Labs"
