1. The sample can be either wet or dry. It is best not to add anything, so if the sample is a powder, don't use water to make it a solution. The important thing is to ensure the plates are virtually touching.
2. Best not to use a solvent if possible. It will skew the results. If you must, use distilled water. Spirits may evaporate during the scan.
