What you propose is fine. And if you ever do decide to do some contact work, you can always wheel in a comfy chair.
The only problem I see that you might run into is the laptop itself overheating or having its' lifespan shortened due to running hotter than normal all the time. Due to not having enough ventilation in the cabinet in the closet. Dependent on how small or enclosed the cabinet/closet is their is the possibility of not enough cool air circulating into the cabinet/closet to properly cool the laptop.
