1. You do not need to turn off the generator, you can stop the treatment of the channel you want to use for contact treatment and reset it. For the hardware part, you only have to change the accessories from remote to contact.

The GX does not know the hardware. It turns out in the case of Contact to Remote, you could use the same preset / settings. But in general, this is not the case. For example, running a Contact preset on Spooky2 Central could ruin the unit, or with Laser, it would not light up.
2. I have changed remote presets to contact or plasma.
Go to the preset tab - uncheck 'LOAD PROGRAMS' that is at the top but under the preset tab.
I can click Shell Setting Preset and choose a plasma or contact or laser or whatever shell setting preset I want.
I save it as a new custom preset stating which shell I chose. And run it.
You have one shot or you lose the preset. So you may want to save it before trying this out. If you click anything 2x or click another preset, you will lose the loaded one.
This is the easiest way to change the setting shell without re-loading the programs.
