Steps to disable power saving for USB:
1) Control Panel
2) Device Manager
3) Expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
4) Right click "USB Root Hub", Choose Properties
5) Power Management
6) Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
7) Repeat steps 4 to 6 for each of the "Usb Root Hubs" on your computer.
I also took the following steps as a further precaution, but they may not be necessary:
1) Control Panel
2) Device Manager
3) Expand "Ports (COM & LPT)
4) Right click "Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge", Choose Properties
5) Power Management
6) Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
7) Repeat steps 4 to 6 for all your generator COM ports
If the settings do not work, or the problem comes back after rebooting you may need to do the following:
1) Control Panel
2) Power Options
3) Change Plan Settings
4) Change Advanced Power Settings
5) Expand "USB Settings"
6) Change USB selective suspend to DISABLED
