Sounds like in this case, the plasma energies got into the USB port and locked the driver.
In this state, the only way to reset it is to unplug the USB cable to the affected generator. Then the driver can be released and reset. Otherwise it will remain hung and inoperative.
A computer reboot usually can also fix this (release driver) but in some cases will not purge the static charge in the USB line that caused it.
Thus always shut down the software, unplug the USB cable, then plug back in and restart software.
If this does not fix it, then add a power cycle to the computer after you unplug the USB cable.
