Why is there black on the electrode of the phanotron tube?

All Plasma tubes have a 2-hour burn-in process to remove impurities. All unwanted gas is literally “burnt” away. After this process, there is often a small black deposit on the electrodes or glass. This is both common and normal. It is not an indication of a problem with the tube, and it does not mean the tube has a reduced life.
