First, Different parts of the skin have different resistance, so it is best to use parts of the skin that are mostly uniform in looks, etc., to eliminate a concentrated point of high current flow. It is possible to burn skin anytime using contact mode, especially when a user is new to this type of healing. It seems most likely when there are higher toxin levels, which would be more likely in new users who haven't done any detox...
Another "must-do" is to use Preset Contact settings when new so someone with experience has set up the settings to reduce the likelihood of burning. While this doesn't mean that burning is impossible, it is less likely.
If one has many freckles or moles, it is best to use Remote or Plasma mode to make sure burning doesn't occur. However, even if burning does occur, it is rare that this would cause a mole to become malignant.
