You can find many types (wavelengths) of lasers ranging from 3mW up to tens of Watts and equipped with TTL input, allowing to communicate with any TTL signal source. Some of them have own power supply and all you'll need is to connect TTL IN of your laser unit with TTL OUT of XM generator using BNC type cable.
Low power lasers can run directly from XM OUT, with respect to their manufacturer recommended ratings (operating voltage).
Laser diodes, such as those inside laser pointers will work like that and you won't need TTL to pulse them On and Off at desired frequency but their power levels are very low.
