Yes, the area must be shaved. I do not think I would put it over the heart area. Think opposite sides. Inner left leg, inner right arm. I do not use contact on the pets as they can not tell if they are feeling the current. I do remote treatment on pets (dogs, cats, horses) and they respond well.
