I don't know if it would be more effective than contact mode; but I think using a sample of the pathogen in the remote will be more effective that using a finger nail DNA. We have tried for example pieces of broken tooth and they worked better than finger nail.
Personally, I haven't had much success with the spectrum sweep on samples I have tried (mold or finger nail DNA) but I know others have had some success. One day I will have another go with mold.
I don't know if you can consider the mechanism to be killing of the infection directly, because a DNA is not likely to transmit a directly destructive message to itself (my guess)... but there could likely be frequencies that convince them to stop/shutdown and so you will get the same result.
Basically, I think this experiment has a good chance of working.
For the red blood cells I read that its up to four days; spittal perhaps 1-2days. If you are targetting the bacteria that is growing then potentially it could be much longer.
