MP3 is an aggressive compression method that removes data to make the files smaller. The removed data is not so important when you pursue to delight your musical sense, but is very important when you are trying to cure.
The waveforms coming out such devices are not intended to be so perfect as the ones coming out one frequency generator, so its ability to produce an effect is greatly reduced (but still present).
