In Spooky2 software-Utils can click to turn display off. I put felt pads on the corners of my GenX so air could go under it. It's normal to get warm. The only way is to have it connected to your computer to turn off GX display. Next time try this - before disconnecting from computer turn off display in software. IDK - but I assume it requires the software to turn back on - or perhaps turn it off and then back on.
